About This Service
Our Community Participation & Social Engagement service helps participants stay active and included in society. We work with each person to identify interests and goals for social life - whether that’s joining a sports team, attending a creative class, or just meeting friends for a coffee.
Then we provide the support and encouragement needed to make it happen. For example, we can accompany someone to a local netball team or art workshop, helping them connect with others who share their interests.
The aim is to help participants feel connected and build friendships. Participating in community activities, from volunteering to recreation, helps people feel valued and engaged.
Examples of Support
Some examples included in this service would be:
Accompaniment to community activities and social outings (clubs, classes, cafés)
Support to join new groups (sports, arts, volunteering)
Skill-building for social and communication skills
Assistance in forming friendships and support networks
Encouraging new experiences (nature walks, cultural events)
Guidance in using public transport or travel plans as needed
What is Included?
Participants can expect a varied schedule of social activities tailored to their interests. For example, one week might include a group excursion (like a bushwalk or museum visit) and a community centre class; the next week might involve a cooking club or a supported movie outing.
Support workers help plan and facilitate these activities. They might start by teaching community access skills (such as buying train tickets) or building confidence through small gatherings. During each activity, our staff ensure participants can fully engage - assisting with any care needs, encouraging interaction, and keeping things fun.
Over time, participants have the chance to take part in a wide range of events that reflect their personal interests, helping them stay active and connected.
